Painting hand old saws?

My Mom and Dad have an old hand saw that they would like to get painted. I was think about trying to paint it for them. I'm not the best painter but I did do a little painting in art I in high school. I already know I have to get all the rust off and prim it first. but I was wondering if there was a way to transfer a image to the saw before painting as a gild line. Just basically an out line to go by because I wouldn't want to mess the saw up buy doing a bad job at painting it. I was thinking of doing a simple landscape with maybe some tepees in the background since my moms living room is done in Indians.
