What genre/era would you place composer Ippolitov-Ivanov in?

He lived from mid 19th century till mid 20th, and wrote works from 1881 till 1935. Should I clify him as "First half of the twentieth century", as "Romantic'', or as...? He sounds highly romantic to me, but I'm still new to this :-)
