Sims three help, please?

okay, so I have the sims 3 downloaded along with sims 3 world adventures. When I pull the launcher up, it says "Your sims 3 base game is incompatible with your expansion pack. Please update your launcher." so, I put my base game in and click "update" and you know what it does? it just poofs away and doesn't update it! so wtf do I do? thanks, a lot :)
